Motivation to Challenge Yourself

I absolutely love this quote above.  There are always so many doubts going through my head.  Often, I feel there is a voice saying “YOU CANNOT DO THIS.”
Instead of allowing that voice to be right, I would like to really focus on proving it wrong.

I did something for the first time a few days ago!!  I walked across the ENTIRE Cooper River Bridge and back.  My friend absolutely insisted that we must make it to a light pole a ways away from the end of the bridge to ensure that we had walked the 5 mile trek.  I felt like we should be awarded medals and receive a standing ovation by the time we got to the end. The feeling of completing the walk though was amazing. I really did something I did not think I could do.

I need to do more of this kind of thing….

Weight Loss Update

My weight this morning read 194.6  ! I never thought I would be excited about this number! At the beginning of this month I was about 200 pounds so I am proud of myself for sticking with the Elliptical every day or walking with my friends. I’m telling you that when you walk with friends it makes exercising much more enjoyable. Especially when you bring up a topic like homosexuality and people’s views. That particular walk FLEW by as we were all sharing different perspectives haha!

I need to work on my drinking water. I’ve kind of failed in doing that the past few days. I do drink water, but I have not been tracking it like I should. Please note: I do NOT count my calories nor track my food. I am learning to eat healthy and am also working on forgiving myself for the times that I don’t. For me, tracking my food holds me accountable and when I fail (do too many calories..eat too much) it just makes me feel like I’ve bombed an important test. I need to track my water though because it’s really healthy for the body to get 8 cups a day. It’s easy to veer off and do like 2-4 if we include other drinks we may be having. Also, nothing against flavored water (I often drink it!) but I prefer to have several good cups of water with 0 sweeteners involved.

Anyway, I just need motivation personally and tracking, recording, dieting,etc does not do it for me. If it works for you then by all means go for it!! I learned in my Stress Management class that we need to tailor our workout programs to fit our lifestyles. What that means is that what worked for that woman who dropped 50 pounds on the weight watchers program may not work for YOU.  Anything that makes you miserable & frustrated is not a lifestyle in my opinion. What I have learned about weight loss and being healthy is that you REALLY have to want it. You must be willing to:

deal with some discomfort

more than you ever have in your entire life.

But at the same time tell yourself this will pass. That you are strong and WILL get through this. Don’t give up ❤

I like to move it! move it !

So I weighed myself this morning and I was 196.8. I body fluxuates like crazy. I can fluxuate 5 pounds within any given day. I’ve never understood why that is. However, I will never complain about the number going DOWN though  🙂 I feel productive.

Today :

-woke up and made chicken w/rice and veggies (for dinner) before I even ate breakfast

-painted 3 doors white and their trim (it’s amazing how long it takes to paint a damn door that is really dirty!)

-cleaned the garage out, swept, threw away a lot of junk

-vacummed the living room

– dusted, windexed the doors to fire place, swept out fire place, then vacuumed it out. (horrified at how dirty it was!)

-did 20 minutes on the elliptical after completing all of the above  tasks

Now I am sitting here feeling bored! The family I work for is on vacation in Brazil so I do not have work until later next week (joy).  I could never be a stay at home mom. I would go out of my mind. Even though I don’t have a lot of energy, I do like to get out, ride around, and do different things.

Really going to work on my body, drink lots of water, and attempt to really start loving myself more. Also, going to try very hard to not do what Mr. Squirrel is doing below right before going to bed!  :

Wednesday Weight Loss Journal

So clearly it is not Wednesday! haha but I just decided that every Wednesday I will report on here a Wednesday healthy eating/weight loss journal entry. It may contain:

Today, I did 20 minutes on the Elliptical. I think 20 minutes is a good amount of time for me right now. I was doing 15 but think that I can handle the 20 now 🙂 I felt  so gross earlier! ugh ! I’ve had cramps, felt miserable, and been binge eating on sugar for the past 3-4 days. I kid you not, I made a special trip to Food Lion to get Ben and Jerry’s  Ice Cream and a box of Lucky Charms. Today, I decided to turn it around since I was feeling better. I swear we eat like we feel.  I also went to the chiropractor. I feel longer somehow since he cracked my back and neck! I never thought me and an ostrich would have things in common !

Ok so something SUPER hard for me …my actual weight.

I weigh 199.4 pounds as of today. I’ve been struggling in the 190’s ever since I had to get on Prednisone for a few months. If you struggle with weight please do NOT take that medication. I gained about 20 pounds within 2 months. Also, I have horrible cramps and tend to REALLY over eat once a month for several days at a time which does not help anything.  I’m really trying to figure out how to beat this.  If I start making myself accountable on here I think it will really help.

Productive

Well today I feel really productive. It’s been a while since I wrote a positive status like this. I think that the counseling is paying off! 🙂

So, this morning I had a foreign film assignment. It was to watch a movie set in a different country with subtitles and then to write a 1500 plus word critic on it.  I had a list of questions to respond to in my essay along with having to incorporate my response to other people’s critics in a both negative & positive way.  It’s one of those reports that you just stare at the assignment and go FML.  However, I woke up this morning after having slept late (YESSS) and bunkered down for over 3 hours to knock out that damn thing.  Thank you lord it is done.  I want to show quickly the movie I chose.

I chose this film because it’s based off arranged marriages and what Indian women were/are still subjected to. I was familiar with the arranged marriage part but did not realise that widows must go to live in a house of widows to mourn, pray, and live their life in isolation.  How have I not heard of this?? There is also a lot of corruption that goes on in a house of widows such as the prostitution of children in order to make money for the house to survive. I definitely recommend it if you are interested in the Indian culture.

Ok so after I did this I then decided to make my Chinese rice recipe. The picture below is from The Cooking Photographer’s webpage. Mine looked a lot like it though and was DELICIOUS. Seriously, GOOD.  If you want a healthier way to make Chinese rice check out the recipe here.

I did some laundry today and then got on the elliptical for 15 minutes 🙂 I know 15 minutes is like really? but for someone getting back into exercise and who gets sick extremely easily I cannot push my body. And 15 minutes is better than no minutes!

I also did some planning ahead for my trip to SC and GA coming up in a few weeks. I got a few healthy snacks like Brown Rice and Roasted Red Pepper Triscuits. This is a new flavor and I could have eaten the entire box! The texture was different…the crackers were not so dry ! I also got Very Berry Fig Newtons. It’s always good to pack snacks ahead for a trip if at all possible! 🙂

Do’s and Don’ts of dieting…in my opinion

I know I’ve been blogging a lot about recipes lately..and not the most healthiest ones haha! It’s weird but if I am craving sugar sometimes it helps to blog about things that I can eat in the future (and in moderation) 🙂 I had a friend recently post about some do’s and don’ts of friendship. It inspired me to write some do’s and don’ts of dieting. If you would like to add to my list please comment below! I would love to add things that I feel are relevent and true.

Do

  • Choose a diet (or lifestyle) that is right for YOU
  • Write, blog, and inform people about it
  • Share your ups and downs
  • Join www.sparkpeople.com for their amazing message board, food trackers, and huge support group
  • Try recording your food in a spiral notebook for one week. I’m not saying count calories, I’m saying learn what’s really going in your mouth.
  • Teach yourself to cook. And by cook I don’t just mean main dishes. I recently learned how to cook broccoli for the FIRST time in something other than the microwave!
  • Make a board on www.pinterest.com dedicated sheerly to healthy things and/or fitness inspiration
  • Watch the Biggest Loser
  • Find an exercise that you enjoy
  • If feel you may have anorexia, bulimia, or body dismorphic disorder seek counseling
  • Do subscribe to health magazines
  • If your diet (or lifestyle)  allows, eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.
  • Listen to your body. There is a difference between doing one more crunch when you feel like you can’t go anymore and literally exercising to the point where you are ill.
  • Allow yourself treats in moderation
  • Pee before you weigh. I’m telling you, get all that water weight OUT first! 🙂
  • Reward yourself when you have lose weight or achieved a goal
  • Find a motivational partner, write them about weight gain and loss, make goals together, and never give up on one another.
  • Take your dog on a walk ! It makes it more fun!
  • Make sure you have a good pair of walking/running shoes that fit well.
  • Get enough rest! It aides in the weight loss process. I need AT LEAST 8 hours a night if not 10!
  • Find other hobbies to take your mind off of eating
  • Sneak healthier popcorn into the movie theatre. I pop those snack bags and bring them right on in inside my purse haha!
  • Take your vitamins!
  • Drink as much water as possible

Don’t

  • Expect fast results. If they happen then great but remember often weight loss is slow.
  • Push your diet (lifestyle) on people. There is a difference between sharing what you are doing and pushing/preaching it to other people. If they ask for information that is fine! But realize when you say “you really should be doing this” it is likely coming across in their brain as “You look overweight and are clearly not eating right”
  • I’m sorry but if at all possible, don’t smoke. Smoking is not only horrible for your lungs but for your over all health. Yes, it is for many people an appetite suppressant. However, when you decide to go off smoking expect to crave food.
  • Don’t judge others based on their diet unless you feel their health is in danger.
  • Just because a celebrity is supposedly doing it does not mean doing the same thing will morph you into their body.
  • Give Up.  Always push yourself. If it didn’t happen yesterday then today is a great day to begin.
  • Use holidays as an excuse to NOT diet or diet afterwords. If your going for long-term results  you must try to stay strong during holidays. that does not mean saying “no thanks” to desert! It means SMALL PORTIONS.
  • Regardless of what type of diet (lifestyle) you are following, never starve yourself.
  • Scare yourself when you go to the gym and weigh right afterwords. If you had bottled water to drink them more than likely 1-2 pounds of water is sitting in your stomach.
  • Give Up. Often you must cheer yourself on even if you feel like the only one
  • Keep food in the house that you will binge on
  • Feel you have failed if you gain weight back.. Many people fluctuate (like me) up to 3-4 lbs a day for some reason a day
  • Keep people in your life that do not motivate, support, and stand for you. Unhealthy relationships lead to stress which leads to weight gain. There are definite scientific studies to prove this.
